Where is your favorite place in Oregon and why? If I could meet a non-living composer, it would have to be Sappho because she was such an important and influential figure in music and poetry, yet we know so little about her and so little of her work survives.
If you could meet one composer/musician, who would it be and why? If I had to choose one, maybe any Brahms symphony (but my answer might be different tomorrow). What is your favorite piece of all time to play and why?įavorite piece of all time?! This is such a difficult question to answer because I enjoy performing a wide variety of styles. If I weren’t a musician, I might be.a seafarer. If you weren’t a musician what would you be? When not playing music, you’ll likely find me walking around town or hiking with my binoculars (I discovered how much I enjoy birdwatching during the pandemic). When you’re not playing your instrument(s), what would we most likely find you doing? The haunting sound of the oboe is what made me want to play it. What made you decide to play your instrument? Wind instruments followed a few years later. I started playing music when I was about five and began taking piano lessons. I’m beginning my first season with Eugene Symphony this fall, and I’m very excited to get started. What year did you join the orchestra, and how long have you been playing music? In the first concerto written for himself, David and his partner Kathleen Tagg bring the world of klezmer, jazz, Mozart, and a host of other genre-bending music into a dazzling showpiece. Later in October, we unveil a very special commission from one of the greatest clarinetists of our time, David Krakauer. Opening Night features one of the most popular ballets, The Three-Cornered Hat, in its flamenco-inspired entirety, while the program also brings Gershwin’s jazzy Piano Concerto in F and introduces our First Symphony Project Composer-in-Residence, Angélica Negrón.
