Where is your favorite place in Oregon and why? If I could meet a non-living composer, it would have to be Sappho because she was such an important and influential figure in music and poetry, yet we know so little about her and so little of her work survives.

If you could meet one composer/musician, who would it be and why? If I had to choose one, maybe any Brahms symphony (but my answer might be different tomorrow). Wind instruments followed a few years later. I started playing music when I was about five and began taking piano lessons. It is musical-story telling at its best only to be matched by one of the most beloved orchestral adventures, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade.Īnd in November, we continue our journey through Wagner’s epic opera, Tristan und Isolde, with Act II-an intimate and heartbreaking portrait of a forbidden relationship. In the first concerto written for himself, David and his partner Kathleen Tagg bring the world of klezmer, jazz, Mozart, and a host of other genre-bending music into a dazzling showpiece. Later in October, we unveil a very special commission from one of the greatest clarinetists of our time, David Krakauer. Opening Night features one of the most popular ballets, The Three-Cornered Hat, in its flamenco-inspired entirety, while the program also brings Gershwin’s jazzy Piano Concerto in F and introduces our First Symphony Project Composer-in-Residence, Angélica Negrón.
